So, over the weekend I decided to have a go at the railcar. I spent most of my free time -mostly early mornings before everyone else got up- marking out the sides and door positions. After my experience with my first locomotive, I carefully made sure the sides were mirrors of each other, not the same, and then on Sunday evening I grabbed half an hour and cut out the holes on the first section, and lined it up with the base of the railcar.
It was 3,5mm too short.
Goodness knows how I managed to miss off 3.5mm from the model: I remember measuring everything very carefully, so maybe it’s just that I’ve been getting up too early or trying to build before I’ve had a cup of tea.
At least I cut the thing out to try before making all the others the same size. At first I thought I’d have to measure up a whole new set, but then I realised that if I added 3,5mm and resized the cab windows (which I needed to do anyway) then the doors would only be a couple of millimetres offset, which is hardly noticeable, so I decided to go with the bodger option.
Of course, you’ll know, but I trust you not to tell anyone.
I won’t say a word to anyone. 🙂
Looking forward to watching this project.
I knew I could trust you…
I’m intrigued to see how I do some of the more intricate bits myself.
[…] model is never going to photograph well, so you’ll have to take my word for it that the short sides have been replaced by longer versions, and I managed to complete the grilles and doors on the first […]
Hey there;
Looking forward to whatever size it finishes as!
Hey, only off by one HO foot, ain’t no big thing!
