That does make sense actually, especially as the RHB runs into the italian speaking part of Switzerland: thanks for the information.

I'm not sure any train should be called a Presto though.

Actually, the musical definition may well make perfect sense:
al·le·gro (-lgr, -lgr) Music
adv. & adj. Abbr. allo
In a quick, lively tempo, usually considered to be faster than allegretto but slower than presto. Used chiefly as a direction.
n. pl. al·le·gros
An allegro passage or movement.

They're all good plans. I like #2 and the continuous run variation of #3 best.

P.S. Your link still points at my old blog, would you mind updating it?

Funnily enough my parents live in Bedale, and I've often looked at the station their and wondered what it would look like with a small yard by the main road, a lower platform, and a pair of reguaged class 14's hauling a transporter train of standard gauge sone wagons through, or even a load of tanks bound for Redmire. That'd shut the crossing for a while...
I -just- remember blue class 20's there, and class 60's when they were still brand spanking new. I also remember the guard giving the right away after closing the gates and climbing onto his van, and what he said to the driver when the couplings snatched and he nearly fell overboard...

I think big buildings are the key here. You mustn't be able to see all the layout from any one position.

And a tail chaser is an excellent idea for running in locomotives. On a trip working of course !

I did wonder if you had taken a sudden turn Andy, but guess you must be talking about the forests of Germany. But yes the Wensleydale Branch in metre gauge would be an interesting idea. Although there are some possibilities for NG with the Quarries at Preston Under Scar and Leyburn.. but thats a different story, Once drove a 47 on the line many many years ago when I was a nipper, any back to the post, still looking forward to it! :)

I like the humorous wording in your post. :) There’s nothing wrong with taking a train for a “jolly spin”.
Looking at your plans makes me want to build my own model railway again, but that would probably cost too much money. And I’m afraid I could lose interest along the way. So I guess I’ll stick to my ambulances for the time being.

Having lived in 2 of those places, am intrigued to know how you are going to model this, and especially in 5.5mm. Looking forward to seeing stock ideas and this one panning out.

I assumed the circle would be about 18" radius, so the model would be about 3' by5'. I don't know if I'd get away with this though- it may look a bit too train set like. I think the buildings are a bit big on the plan as well...
