It’s no good: no matter how hard I try, a picture of a partially built plasticard model is never going to photograph well, so you’ll have to take my word for it that the short sides have been replaced by longer versions, and I managed to complete the grilles and doors on the first unit. I almost started on the grilles for the second railcar but decided that those were quite enough. I’ll get onto that next week.
I’m going to add a kick plate to the area below the door: this follows the prototype, which will hopefully help to capture the ‘feel’ of the real thing even though the model isn’t exactly to scale. It’ll also hide the bodge where I made one of the doors too long and had to stick a bit of packing in. I’m wondering about adding the ribbing on the bodyside. On one hand this will also make the model look more like the original, but on the other, I don’t know if I could make it accurately- it’d look pretty silly with wavy lines all along the side, so of anyone has any bodger-proof method of keeping them parallel, I’d be grateful. With the sides done I can tackle the complexities of the three-sided cab fronts- I’ve yet to work out how I’ll be doing that bit.
But a picture is worth a thousand words Andy
BTW, I’ve moved the Dog Bone Western to webpage format and closed down the blog in the event you want to update the link. Here is the URL: http://dweyrich.googlepages.com/dogbonewestern
The question is, would you really want to wade through 1000 more words from me: that’s about 2 blog posts, on avarage. Thanks for the new link: I’ve updated the blog…
